LIO RUSH will retire aged just 26 after suffering a horror injury on his AEW debut. Lio expressed gratitude to Tony Khan for his interest in signing him to a deal Khan made it clear that both parties were on good terms with each other. It was a lot of things going through my mind. Less than two weeks later, Lio Rush abruptly announced his retirement from pro wrestling, while vowing to finish his contractual obligations with NJPW. Rush took to Instagram and Twitter tonight to make the announcement. NJPW star Lio Rush has announced his retirement from pro wrestling. I was going all over the country with Independent promotions, New Japan, MLW, and Triple A. “During that time of me debuting in AEW, my wrestling career, viewed by the casual fan, it was on the up. Following that setback, Lio Rush was able to analyze the situation and see that he has plenty more gas in the tank for pro wrestling. He debuted for AEW and then he thought his time was up after another injury. For those, Rush said he would honor them, but beyond that he would be done wrestling. It is important to note that he still has contractual obligations to NJPW as well. Based on that development, the former WWE Superstar opted to retire from in ring competition. Rush, real name Lionel Green, shared the news of his retirement in an Instagram post on Tuesday, June 8, surprising many friends, fans, and colleagues with the announcement. While speaking to Vickie Guerrero’s Excuse Me podcast, Rush explained why he decided to cut his retirement short once again. While Lio Rush only recently arrived to AEW, his arrival resulted in a shoulder injury. ![]()
